For the second day in a row, an intense celebrity offspring is our Winner. I can’t imagine what it must have been like to grow up the son of John and June Cash.

But it’s not for lack of trying. Certainly, it’s hard to think of any two musicians who have more persistently parental personas – as musicians – than those two. The straightforward minor-key harmonies, the imparting of life lessons, the public affection for each other that’s so so sweet, so much so that it verges on embarrassing. You can be a fan of all kinds of musicians, young and old, but if you’re born in 1970, and you like that style of music, no other musicians will ever feel more like bonus parents than those two.

So, that’s an awful tall order to have them for your rightful folks. And all those big sisters, from all the other marriages! Who knows how that played out in the home. Pretty staggering to consider what the family must have kept close, when you pause to look at what they sold away.
