Head and shoulders above the rest this day is Spike Lee’s cousin Malcolm D. Five features in ten years is a feat for anyone. Furthermore, these are accomplished mainstream entertainments. The vehicles for not-that-funny comics (Eddie Griffin, Martin Lawrence) are more than balanced out by the aura of sweetness that the seventies roller skating picture had. And is it really possible that the Bernie Mac/Samuel L. Jackson picture hasn’t come on cable yet? It must not have, else I would have watched it. It’s funny when movies you know you’re going to catch on cable somehow take a long time to get there.
